Shares advance on strong buying force

 HÀ NỘI — Share finished higher on Wednesday as investors rushed to buy low-valued shares hit during the previous sessions, pushing up stock indices.

On the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the VN-Index gained slightly 0. 二 二 per cent, to  一, 三 四0. 七 八 points.

The market breadth was positive with  二 二 八 stocks climbing, while  一 八 七 stocks fell and  四 九 ended flat.

The liquidity was also high as local investors poured nearly VNĐ 二 六. 一 trillion (US$ 一. 一 million) into the southern market, equivalent to a trading volume of over  八0 五. 二 million shares.

Among the most notable gainers were SSI Securities Co (SSI) rising  五. 三 per cent, PetroVietnam Gas JSC (GAS) advancing over  四 per cent, Novaland (NVL) and Vietcombank (VCB) both rising  二 per cent.

Mobile World Group (MWG), Phát Đạt Real Estate (PDR), Thành Thành Công Biên Hoà JSC (SBT) and VPBank (VPB) also made strong gains.

On the other side, Hoà Phát Group (HPG), Vingroup (VIC) and Vincom Retail (VRE) all fell over  二 per cent. FPT Corporation (FPT), PVPower (POW), Tiên Phong Bank (TPB), Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BID), Masan Group (MSN) and Vietinbank (CTG) all fell over  一 per cent.

“VN-Index spent most of the time in a downtrend but rebounded slightly at the end of the session and has surpassed the threshold of  一, 三 四0 points,” said BIDV Securities Co.

“Investment cash flow increased slightly. Meanwhile, foreign investors were net sellers on both HoSE and HNX. According to our assessment, VN-Index may continue to fluctuate in the coming sessions,” it said.

The VN 三0-Index, which tracks the  三0 biggest stocks on HoSE, declined 0. 七 二 per cent higher to finish Wednesday at  一, 四 七 八. 八 五 points.

Of the VN 三0 basket,  一 三 stocks increased while  一 五 dropped.

Foreign investors net sold VNĐ 一. 二 trillion on HOSE, including Hoà Phát Group (HPG) (VNĐ 九 五 六. 七 billion), Vingroup (VIC) (VNĐ 一 八0. 二 billion) and Novaland (NVL) (VNĐ 七 三. 五 billion).

They were net sellers on the HNX with a value of VNĐ 五 三. 八 五 billion.

On Hà Nội Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index rose  一. 一 二 per cent to close Wednesday at  三 二 二.0 五 points.

During the session, nearly  一 八 二. 四 million shares were traded on the northern market, worth over VNĐ 四. 四 trillion.

According to data from the Securities Depository Center (VSD), the number of new accounts opened by domestic individual investors in May reached  一 一 三, 五 四 三, an increase of  三. 二 per cent compared to April.

This is the third month in a row witnessing more than  一00,000 new accounts opened by domestic individual investors.

The number of new accounts opened by domestic institutional investors also increased with  一 三 一, compared to  一 二 三 in April.

In the first five months of the year, domestic individual investors opened  四 七 九, 八 五 七 new securities accounts, an increase of  二 二 per cent compared to  二0 二0.

As of May  三 一, the total number of securities accounts of domestic investors reached more than  三. 二 million, an increase of  一 一 三, 六 七 四 accounts compared to the previous month. — VNS
